Will CUSD provide bus transportation for my child?

The school district will provide bus transportation for students to travel to and from school in many locations. Please remember that riding the bus is a privilege, and bus riding rules and regulations will be enforced. Does White Cone High School have a dress code?

Students’ attire and appearance should reflect favorably on themselves and the high school at all times and should not detract or disrupt the education environment of the school. For more specific information regarding our dress code, please refer to the Student Handbook.

What must my child do in order to be eligible to participate in sports, Student Council, clubs, and other extra curricular activities?

In order to participate, students must follow the expected guidelines of behavior at school and on the bus and be passing all of their classes. Each Friday the athletic director will present every teacher and activity sponsor with a list of students not currently eligible. It is the student’s responsibility to bring up his/her grade by noon on Friday in order to participate the following week.

Can my child take electronic devices to school?

CD players, cassette players, video games, cell phones, video cameras, and head sets are not allowed on campus anytime during regular school hours 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Boom boxes are only allowed for special events and the student must obtain permission from the school administration to use them.

Can my child leave school if he/she has an appointment?

Only the parent or guardian on file with the office may check a student out of school. They must go into the office personally to do so. All notes must have a telephone number on them so that we can verify the before we will allow the student to leave. Friends may not check each other out of school. We will consider this “ditching.” We will not release any student to anyone under the age of 18. Students who are 18 years of age or older may check themselves out of school with the written permission of their parent or guardian and with a valid excuse.

Can a student leave campus for lunch?

No. WCHS is a closed campus. Students must remain on campus from the time they arrive until school ends at 3:20 p.m. unless they have completed the proper check-out procedures. We will not issue passes for lunch.

What is the cost of a school breakfast and lunch?

Full-priced lunches cost $2.50. Breakfasts are .75. Please fill out an Application for Free and Reduced Lunches when you enroll your child in school to see if you qualify for the reduced/free lunch price. We ask that if you pay for your child’s meals that you keep your child’s account paid in full. Any account that exceeds $10.00 credit will be given a sack lunch which consists of a peanut butter sandwich, an apple, and a milk. Will my child be required to pass the AIMS test?

Yes. Mandates from the Arizona Department of Education require that students of the class of 2006 and beyond pass the AIMS test in order to obtain their high school diploma. Students can take the test up to five times to pass the reading, writing, and math AIMS test. We will post the results of the test on the student’s transcript.

Can my child get high school credit for college courses he takes?

Yes. If a student wants to get high school credit for college courses he/she takes, he/she must first obtain the approval of the WCHS counselor and administration. We ask that he make this arrangement before enrolling. Please contact the WCHS counselor at (928) 654-3950.

My child received a failing grade for a class taken. Does he/she have to repeat the class?

Student’s have the right to get credit with a “P” passing mark for a class they have previously taken and failed by taking and passing an “exit exam” with a passing grade of 80% or higher. Within the first 10 days of a semester, the student must request to take the exit exam through the principals’ office. The principal will arrange, through the department chair of the respective department, for the student to take the exam. If he/she passes the exam with a score of 80% or better, he/she will receive a “P” score for the class and will receive 1 class credit.

How often can I expect my student to bring home a report card?

We will send home report cards every four weeks. Teachers will send home progress reports with the students at any given time during the grading period. Ongoing communication regarding grades is very important to us, so please contact your child’s counselor if you would like, for any reason, to meet with your child’s teachers(s).

Does WCHS offer Honors/AP classes?

Yes we do. In order to qualify to take these courses, a student must:

  1. Perform above average on standardized tests in the specific curricular area.
  2. Perform at a stated standard on a chosen WCHS assessment tool.
  3. Have teacher recommendation to take the specific class.

What are the admission requirements for the Arizona State Universities?

Admission to any of the three Arizona State Universities requires the following academic competency requirements:

     English (grammar, composition, literary analysis)
     Math (algebra 1, geometry, any advanced math)
     Laboratory Science (earth science, biology, chemistry)
     Social Studies (world history/geography, US/AZ government)
     Foreign Language (must be same language)
     Fine Arts (drama, music, visual arts)
